UBS expects central banks to buy 750 to 1,000 metric tons of gold annually, a level of demand the bank says may help bullion return to $4,000 an ounce.
UBS also expects buyers to step in during price declines, helping offset pressure on gold from higher U.S. real yields and a stronger dollar.
EconoTimes previously reported that institutional investors had returned as gold neared $4,000. That earlier account noted that buying near the threshold does not establish a guaranteed price floor.
