The United Kingdom’s prime minister and Finnish President Alexander Stubb reaffirmed support for efforts to secure lasting peace in Ukraine during a Sunday call that also covered European security.
The UK government said the leaders discussed Ukraine, including negotiations held in Brussels last week. They agreed that work toward a fair, durable peace should remain a priority and move forward quickly. The prime minister said Russian President Vladimir Putin had given no indication he was serious about negotiations and urged Ukraine’s partners to step up pressure on Russia.
The two also discussed the UK-EU relationship ahead of a summit later this month. The prime minister said the UK sought terms that worked for all parties, along with a modern basis for relations between the two sides. The government statement said the leaders planned to speak again.
