Seven men appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Oct. 14 after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorized charges over an alleged plan to supply unfit meat.
The Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) National Food Crime Unit (NFCU) investigated the case. Tudor Organ, 30, William Organ, 54, and Simon Jones, 36, are from Carmarthen; David Hird, 29, is from Ceredigion. Those four appeared by video link. Richard Agyemang, 58, Amjad Buttar, 58, and Abdul Rahman, 56, all based in London, attended court in person.
The CPS alleges that all seven took part in a plan to supply meat considered unfit. Tudor Organ and William Organ also face animal-cruelty allegations over conduct said to have inflicted suffering on an animal.
All seven have been sent to Southwark Crown Court for an appearance on Nov. 11 and remain on unconditional bail. The CPS said prosecutors found the evidence sufficient to proceed and concluded that pursuing the case served the public interest. It also said the case is ongoing and the defendants are entitled to a fair trial.
