The UK government launched a three-year campaign on Oct. 22 urging households to prepare for three days of emergencies, saying advance planning can help reduce pressure on emergency services.

Security Minister Dan Jarvis said the “Be Ready” guidance advises households to be able to manage for three days during an emergency. Recommended supplies include bottled water and nonperishable food, and eligible households are urged to join the Priority Services Register. The advice covers incidents such as severe weather disrupting power, water, phone or internet service.

The government says household preparation can ease pressure on emergency services and help them prioritize people who need more support. Jarvis said some steps are free and supplies can be gathered over time. He said the government had engaged more than 500 organizations while developing the guidance.

A Cabinet Office-backed survey with a core sample of 10,791 UK adults was conducted from Feb. 27 to May 11, 2026. It found that 13% felt their household was largely or totally prepared for an emergency, while 84% said government information on household preparedness was important.

Separately, The Guardian reported on Oct. 22 that Streeting warned hostile states could target everyday infrastructure. The paper said he called the danger “state-sponsored terrorism” and cited cyber operations that might prevent companies from processing payments or interrupt supply networks.

The Guardian placed those remarks at the opening of Rheinmetall’s UK Gun Hall in Telford, which the company confirmed. Rheinmetall said the plant makes components for 120mm and 155mm weapon systems. The company dates breech and breech-block production to May 2026 and the start of barrel production to June.

Rheinmetall puts the plant’s annual peak capacity at 245 barrels across both calibers and more than 50 breeches. It projects the facility could support more than 100 skilled jobs as production develops.

In Parliament on Oct. 19, Streeting said Russia would continue probing Britain and its allies and described Russia’s campaign across Europe as “state-sponsored terrorism.” He said the prime minister had announced briefings for chief executives in sensitive sectors, including defense companies and operators of critical national infrastructure.

The government plans to publish a partner toolkit as the campaign rollout continues.
