Anadolu Agency reported the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) faces an $80 million cash-flow gap as Secretary-General António Guterres renewed an appeal for full funding Friday.

At the U.N.'s Nov. 6 briefing, spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Guterres backed the agency's role in helping Palestine refugees and renewed his appeal to fully fund it.

Anadolu, citing a Thursday UNRWA statement, reported that falling global contributions, restrictive operating conditions and broader financial pressures were putting the agency's essential services at risk. It said the statement also identified accumulated liabilities and recurring obligations as challenges to sustaining the agency's finances over time.

UNRWA's work includes education, health care and relief for Palestine refugees in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria, Anadolu reported.
