UPM-Kymmene Corporation said Monday it appointed Fibres chief Aki Temmes its next chief financial officer and Petri Hakanen Executive Vice President, UPM Fibres, ahead of CFO Tapio Korpeinen’s retirement.
The appointments take effect Jan. 1, 2027. Korpeinen will retire from both the finance post and UPM’s Group Executive Team at the end of 2026. Temmes will remain on the team, while Hakanen will join it.
Temmes has led UPM Fibres since December 2023. He joined UPM in 2003 and was a senior vice president overseeing business control and finance operations before taking charge of Fibres. His other roles at UPM have included finance and business leadership positions.
UPM President and CEO Massimo Reynaudo said Temmes’ more than 20 years at the company included work in finance, business control and business leadership. Reynaudo also cited his experience running the Fibres business.
Hakanen has been Senior Vice President, Fibres Finland Operations, since October 2024. He joined UPM in 1991 and previously served as Senior Vice President, Technology. From 2018 to 2023, he led the company’s Uruguay Development Project.
That project included work on the UPM Paso de los Toros pulp mill, which began start-up in April 2023. Reynaudo cited Hakanen’s background in operations, technology and business leadership, as well as his knowledge of UPM’s Fibres South and Fibres North businesses.
Based in Helsinki, Temmes and Hakanen will report to Reynaudo when they begin their new roles Jan. 1, 2027.
