US companies beat earnings estimates in 19 of the 20 results reported so far for the week of Oct. 19, according to Finnhub's earnings calendar.
General Motors was the only company in the group to fall short, earning $3.70 a share against an estimate of $3.74. Its revenue was $50.02 billion.
American Express has yet to report and is scheduled to release results on Oct. 23 before the market opens. Finnhub lists estimates of $4.53 a share in earnings and $20.32 billion in revenue for the company.
Earnings per share measures a company's profit divided by its shares outstanding. The estimates are averages of analyst forecasts collected before the results.
Meta Platforms earned $7.40 a share against an estimate of $5.79, with revenue of $63.06 billion. Elevance Health reported earnings of $6.99 a share against an estimate of $4.73, with revenue of $50.44 billion.
Valero Energy earned $23.90 a share, exceeding the estimate of $21.28, and recorded revenue of $46.10 billion. AT&T reported earnings of $0.65 a share against an estimate of $0.61, with revenue of $32.32 billion.
Tesla earned $0.48 a share against an estimate of $0.44, with revenue of $28.05 billion. Netflix reported earnings of $0.87 a share against an estimate of $0.84, with revenue of $12.87 billion.
RTX reported earnings of $1.80 a share against an estimate of $1.79. General Electric earned $2.25 a share, exceeding the estimate of $2.07.
Northrop Grumman earned $7.89 a share against an estimate of $7.25. Lockheed Martin reported earnings of $7.97 a share against an estimate of $7.50.
Intuitive Surgical reported earnings of $3.00 a share against an estimate of $2.70. Thermo Fisher Scientific earned $6.68 a share against an estimate of $6.47.
International Business Machines earned $2.95 a share, exceeding the estimate of $2.89. Texas Instruments reported earnings of $2.62 a share against an estimate of $2.44.
Danaher reported earnings of $2.11 a share against an estimate of $1.94. Honeywell International earned $2.27 a share against an estimate of $2.19.
Comcast earned $1.07 a share against an estimate of $1.01. Procter & Gamble reported earnings of $2.00 a share against an estimate of $1.94.
Union Pacific earned $3.53 a share against an estimate of $3.51, with revenue of $7.20 billion.
