U.S. under Trump Series: Trump’s chief economic adviser resigns amid tariff dispute

Not all agree with President Trump when it comes to imposing tariffs on metal imports. President Trump’s chief economic advisor Gary Cohn has submitted his resignation in response to President Trump’s announcement last week that he would impose 25 percent tariff on Steel imports and 10 percent tariff on all Aluminum imports and chose to not to back down from his decision on trade despite looming threats of a trade war, pressure from Republican leadership and complaints from some of U.S. businesses such as auto-makers.

On Tuesday, the President reportedly had a discussion with his economic advisor Mr. Cohn to confirm finally whether he is on board with the trade decision, for which he was not. Since Trump is not ready to back down, one of the key architects of the popular tax reforms stepped down and White House announced his resignation. President Trump tweeted, “Will be making a decision soon on the appointment of new Chief Economic Advisor. Many people wanting the job - will choose wisely!” The White House Trade Council advisor Peter Navarro and Conservative commentator Larry Kudlow are reportedly among frontrunners to succeed Cohn.

The departure of Mr. Cohn, once again confirms that Trump will not be backing out on Trade. As a matter of fact, expect more measures to arrive.
