Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) said Oct. 20 that its GROUP 10 unit carried out an approximately seven-week operation in Sumy Oblast to keep supply routes open, reporting 29 captures and 108 Russian soldiers killed.
HUR said 157 Russian soldiers were wounded. It described the mission as a two-stage operation, with 40 special forces personnel taking part directly.
The agency’s Active Operations Department said GROUP 10 struck more than 1,100 targets. Its list included drone control and launch sites, artillery systems, vehicles and fortifications.
HUR also said its personnel removed Russian troops from a forest area exceeding 600 hectares, after which other Ukrainian defense forces took over the positions.
The agency said the operation disrupted Russian offensive plans, but did not identify where within Sumy Oblast it took place or give its start and end dates. The figures for casualties, targets and area cleared, as well as the claimed effect on Russian plans, have not been independently verified.
