UltraTech Cement Limited will move Managing Director Kailash Chandra Jhanwar into a non-executive vice chairmanship on Jan. 1, 2027, as managing director-designate Jayant Dua takes charge of the cement producer.
The board approved Jhanwar’s change of role on Oct. 19, the company said in a stock exchange filing. His managing director term expires Dec. 31. The decision followed a recommendation from UltraTech’s Nomination, Remuneration and Compensation Committee.
The position is currently held by UltraTech Vice Chairman and non-executive director K. K. Maheshwari. He told the board he plans to give up both posts on Jan. 1, citing current engagements and personal commitments.
UltraTech had set out its executive succession months earlier. In March, the company named Dua managing director-designate effective April 1. His approved managing director term runs from Jan. 1, 2027, through Dec. 31, 2030, and shareholders passed the appointment resolution at the Aug. 17 annual meeting.
Jhanwar, a chartered accountant, entered the Aditya Birla Group’s cement business as a management trainee in 1981. His company profile lists experience in finance, operations and general management across the group’s cement and chemicals businesses, along with acquisitions and integration. He led the Viscose Filament Yarn and Chlor-Alkali businesses before taking the chief manufacturing officer role at UltraTech in 2016. He became managing director on Jan. 1, 2020.
UltraTech is the Aditya Birla Group’s cement flagship. As of Sept. 30, it reported domestic grey cement capacity of 204.7 million tonnes per year and global grey cement capacity of 210.1 million tonnes per year. Consolidated net profit for the three months ended Sept. 30 was ₹1,501.38 crore, compared with ₹1,237.98 crore a year earlier.
Dua’s managing director term and Jhanwar’s vice chairmanship are scheduled to begin Jan. 1, 2027.
