UnitedHealth Group added capacity to repurchase 50 million shares through a November board authorization, expanding a program the company says is intended to return capital to shareholders and offset dilution from stock awards.

The company's Nov. 3 quarterly filing showed that 7.2 million shares remained available under an earlier authorization as of Sept. 30. UnitedHealth repurchased about 13.8 million shares in the first nine months of 2026, at an average price of $359.55 per share.

The program has no fixed expiration date. UnitedHealth may buy shares on the open market or through other transactions, including prepaid or structured arrangements, the filing said.

The company's 2025 annual report said the program is intended to benefit shareholders, manage capital structure and the cost of capital, and offset dilution from share-based awards. The report records a prior board renewal of the program in 2024.
