The University of Michigan Police Department said a student was released after officers witnessed the student assault a woman at a campus gathering two days before Michigan’s Senate election.

Police said officers went to an event they deemed unpermitted at about 5 p.m. ET Sunday, Nov. 1. They reported seeing the assault as the group was preparing to leave. The student was processed and released with warrant authorization still pending, police said.

Video posted by Cam Higby appears to show a woman pushing content creator Liz Benichou to the ground during a discussion of clothing and Iran. Mediaite reported that Benichou was scheduled to speak at a campus free-speech event, while police described the gathering as unpermitted.

Police did not identify the student or confirm a political affiliation.

Taylor Sharp, Benichou’s manager, told Mediaite that Benichou hurt her lower back and planned to seek charges. Police said no injuries were reported.
