Upwind is valued at $3.8 billion after raising $400 million, giving the cloud-security firm additional funding for research and development and to enlarge its sales and marketing functions.

The company plans to use the money for engineering research and development, while also increasing its sales and marketing capacity. Bessemer Venture Partners led the deal; Greylock Partners, Craft Ventures and other existing backers also invested.

Businesses use Upwind's software to protect cloud infrastructure. The platform searches those systems for malware and other suspicious behavior. This year, the company also extended its offering to cover risks involving artificial intelligence; its funding plan centers on research and development and sales and marketing.

The financing follows an earlier $250 million Series B announced Jan. 26. EconoTimes reported then that the Series B put Upwind’s cumulative investment above $430 million; adding $400 million takes the total past $800 million.
