Vice President JD Vance said he thinks President Donald Trump would endorse him if he seeks the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, while saying the two have not discussed a run. Vance has not decided whether to enter the race.

In an interview aired Oct. 19 on 2WAY Tonight, Vance told interviewer Mark Halperin, “I think if I run, the president will endorse me.” Asked whether Trump would make the endorsement immediately, Vance replied, “I would think so, but I don't know, man.” He said he and Trump had not discussed a run.

The remarks follow Vance's earlier statement that he might not run in 2028. At a CBS News town hall that aired Oct. 17, he said, “Of course there's a chance,” when asked whether he could skip the race. In June, Vance said he and second lady Usha Vance planned to discuss his political future after the midterm elections, scheduled for Nov. 3.
