A video posted on X by Precious Oruche shows a cleric leading an Igbo-language song naming Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 election.

Premium Times and TheCable reported that the singer was a Catholic priest and described the performance as support for the candidates. In her caption, Oruche presented the singing as a rehearsal of an NDC song with church members.

TheCable placed the scene at a Sunday service. Oruche’s X post is dated Nov. 1, which marks the upload but does not by itself date the recording.

Premium Times said it had not identified the priest or parish before publication; TheCable also did not name them. Neither report links the performance to an official position from the Catholic Church or an arrangement with NDC organizers.

In a May 31 announcement, the NDC said a special convention in Abuja had affirmed Obi as its presidential candidate and Kwankwaso as its vice-presidential candidate. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lists Jan. 16, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections.

TheCable also cited August remarks by Sani Jingir and a September 2026 endorsement of Tinubu by the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria as other examples of religious leaders’ political activity.
