Vietnam’s average consumer price inflation reached 4.52% year over year in the first nine months as GDP expanded 9.01%, putting price pressures alongside an ambitious growth push.

The National Statistics Office of Vietnam (NSO) reported the nine-month inflation average. The government’s 2026 plan sets a goal of about 4.5% for average CPI growth and calls for GDP growth of at least 10%. The nine-month figure is not the full-year result.

The NSO also reported that goods exports totaled US$434.30 billion in the first nine months, up 24.5% from a year earlier. September goods exports reached US$59.48 billion, a 39.1% annual increase. Retail sales of goods and consumer services totaled VND 5,925.7 trillion over the nine-month period, rising 13.4% at current prices and 7.8% after adjusting for prices.

FXStreet reported Oct. 30 that DBS Group Research expects October goods exports to rise 42% year over year and headline inflation to remain near 5%. Those figures are forecasts.

In an Oct. 6 research note, DBS linked export strength to AI-related demand for electronics. It also pointed to employment conditions and foreign tourism as supports for consumer spending.

September CPI was 5.08% above its year-earlier level and rose 0.62% from August. The NSO attributed most of the monthly increase to domestic fuel prices moving with world prices and tuition rises at some universities and private schools. It reported that transport prices increased 3.97% month over month, while gasoline rose 9.39% and diesel 4.53%.

An Oct. 15 government directive told agencies to monitor fuel, food, raw materials and construction materials, citing global energy prices, transport costs and possible supply disruptions. It framed price stability as support for household living standards and production and business activity. Vietnam has proposed GDP growth of at least 10% in 2027.

The NSO lists Tuesday, Nov. 3, as the next release date for the September-period economic series.
