Vulcan Materials Company reported a 4.7% year-over-year revenue decline in the third quarter, while aggregates revenue rose and shipments fell, showing mixed performance in its largest business.

Revenue totaled $2.1846 billion for the quarter, down from a year earlier. At the same time, revenue in the aggregates segment increased 1.7% to $1.8225 billion from $1.7921 billion. Aggregates accounted for most of the company’s quarterly revenue, but its increase was not enough to keep total sales from declining. Vulcan filed its results on Oct. 29 in a Form 8-K with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Net earnings attributable to Vulcan were $362.3 million, compared with $374.9 million a year earlier. Diluted earnings per share were $2.80, down from $2.82, while adjusted diluted earnings per share from continuing operations eased to $2.83 from $2.84.

Aggregates shipments fell 3% to 62.7 million tons. The freight-adjusted selling price rose 4% to $22.84 per ton, and cash gross profit per ton increased to $11.95 from $11.84. Vulcan attributed the profit expansion to commercial and operational execution, while cost management helped offset cost pressures.

Vulcan said the comparison was against a weather-aided third quarter in 2025, after winter conditions and first-half rain delayed that year’s construction season. That helped make the prior-year shipment comparison favorable.

Vulcan CEO Ronnie Pruitt said energy inflation remained a cost headwind into the fourth quarter. The company said it was using pricing and cost actions to mitigate the effect. Vulcan projected full-year adjusted EBITDA of about $2.4 billion. Pruitt said Vulcan expects earnings to rise again in 2027 and forecast aggregates price increases in the middle to upper single digits.

Vulcan said it returned $417 million to shareholders through repurchases and dividends. The 8-K lists results under Item 2.02 and financial statements and exhibits under Item 9.01. The SEC index lists 13 filing documents, including the earnings release exhibit and XBRL data files. Vulcan scheduled a conference call for 10 a.m. ET Thursday to discuss the results.
