WFAA cited federal law enforcement sources who accused the teenager of plotting an attack in North Texas for ISIS and planning to target Rep. Keith Self at an event on Oct. 17.
WFAA reported that the teen acquired a firearm before his Oct. 5 arrest. The station said federal agents had kept him under observation and that he remained in federal custody. His identity had not been made public, WFAA reported. The station did not identify the event or give its venue or time.
Breitbart News separately reported that investigators had information the teen might also target Self as part of a broader ISIS case. The outlet said the teenager had been charged, but named no charge. That report of a formal charge is unverified; no case-specific charging document or law enforcement announcement appeared in the public FBI Dallas or U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas listings reviewed.
The U.S. House Clerk lists Self as a Republican representing Texas’ 3rd Congressional District. Self’s Sept. 3 release says he introduced a concurrent resolution condemning Sharia law and opposing its implementation in the United States. Asked by WFAA whether his views on radical Islam explained the alleged targeting, Self said, “I can’t prove that. I don’t know that for sure.”
