Three separate meetings in Beijing on Nov. 3 brought Foreign Minister Wang Yi together with officials from Thailand, Laos and Myanmar, China’s Foreign Ministry said, with readouts citing political reconciliation and anti-fraud cooperation.
China supports Myanmar achieving political reconciliation, the ministry said. It separately backed the new government’s efforts to stabilize the situation and develop the economy. At the Thailand meeting, Wang called for China and Thailand to step up cooperation against gambling and telecommunications fraud, according to the ministry.
Reuters reported that fast-growing illegal call-center networks operate near Thailand’s borders with Myanmar and Cambodia, using phone and online schemes to defraud people. The outlet said trafficked workers are often among the people staffing those networks.
The United Nations special rapporteur on Myanmar reported more than 100,000 conflict-related deaths since the 2021 coup. Separately, the U.N. refugee agency (UNHCR) listed 4,058,100 internally displaced people as of Oct. 19, 2026.
China’s Foreign Ministry scheduled a Lancang-Mekong foreign ministers’ meeting for Nov. 3-4.
