Westpac's policy notice says it may reject additional payments to cryptocurrency exchanges it identifies after a customer reaches A$10,000 in cumulative transfers during a calendar month, under a policy taking effect Dec. 1, 2026.

The rule covers exchanges Westpac identifies and payments made through its relevant products and payment methods. Transfers from exchanges into Westpac accounts are outside the change.

An over-limit payment is not automatically blocked; Westpac retains discretion to reject it. The bank says customers cannot request an exemption or a higher limit.
