World Opens Its Identity App for Downloads in More Than 150 Countries

The app lets users manage three types of proof, but Proof of Human still requires verification at an Orb. World also outlined possible checks for AI agents acting on a person's behalf.

World has made its World ID app available for download in more than 150 countries, expanding access to tools for presenting identity-related proofs while keeping its Proof of Human credential tied to Orb verification, the company said Oct. 16.

The app is listed in Apple’s App Store and Google Play. World says Proof of Human is for showing that someone is a unique person online. Users who have not completed an Orb check can still use Proof of Presence, which relies on a quick phone check, and Proof of Attributes, which can confirm details such as age or nationality from government credentials without disclosing identity.

People moving from World App do not need to transfer proofs manually. World said their proofs carry over automatically and previously claimed World ID proofs are available in the new app after sign-in.

The broader availability follows World’s discussion of how people might delegate proofs to AI agents. In an Oct. 2 post, the company named OpenAI’s “dots” as an example of an agent, but did not announce a partnership or product integration with OpenAI.

World said websites may block agents that cannot show a person is behind a request, creating friction for users and potential losses for websites. The company also argued that the number of agents could grow while the human population remains finite, making controls such as rate limits and purchase limits relevant to online services.

As an example of that tension, World cited Amazon’s blocking of Muse shortly after the agent’s launch. Its posts did not identify a next scheduled decision or indicator related to the app or agent verification.
