Two Oct. 16 readings showed XRP’s 50-day moving average above its 200-day average, though the gap ranged from about $0.01 on one chart to $0.14 in a daily-close calculation.

One chart reading put the 50-day average at about $1.39 and the 200-day near $1.38. A separate calculation based on daily closing prices showed averages of $1.42 and $1.28, respectively. Both readings placed the shorter-term average above the longer-term one.

In the daily-close calculation, the 50-day average most recently moved above the 200-day on Sept. 22, when XRP closed at $1.57.

A “death cross” describes the 50-day average dropping below the 200-day. Since both measures draw on earlier prices, the crossover can appear after the market move it reflects.
