XRP’s Long-Term Value Case Depends on Wider Network Use

SMQKE argues that wider network participation could matter to XRP’s long-term value, but says adoption has yet to move the token’s price.

In an Oct. 21 post, SMQKE said participation by banks, payment providers and apps could make the network more useful to existing users. A video illustration uses 180 XRP pairs to connect 180 currencies and frames each additional currency as a possible source of demand.

The video identifies cross-border payments, tokenized assets and decentralized finance as other possible sources of activity. These are potential uses described in the video, not evidence that those activities have already changed the token’s market price.

The video draws on Metcalfe’s Law, which links a network’s value to the square of its user base. It depicts adoption as an S-curve, with activity potentially building slowly before gaining pace as participation broadens. These models describe possible effects of wider use; SMQKE’s post says adoption has not yet driven XRP’s price.

The video also notes that transaction burns destroy small quantities of XRP. It does not quantify their effect or provide evidence that they have offset other factors affecting supply or price.

The question of whether greater network use would translate into gains for XRP also appeared in earlier coverage of potential bank use of the XRP Ledger.
