The XRPL Commons event page names Mastercard as a partner in a New York hackathon for XRP Ledger (XRPL) projects, tying the payments company to a 36-hour contest with more than $40,000 in prizes.
The event was scheduled for Oct. 24–25. XRPL Commons grouped submissions into four tracks: Why Not, Protocol Innovation, Lending & Borrowing and Agentic Finance.
XRPL Commons said its Why Not category leaves room for ideas involving the ledger. Project presentations were to examine AI agents’ use of XRPL for payments, including applications, safeguards and credit tools.
The organization said its 2026 Paris hackathon attracted 150 participants, who produced 52 projects. XRPL Commons said roughly one-third of those projects continued after the event.
A separate Mastercard plan covers stablecoin settlement. In a June 3 announcement, the company named Ripple USD (RLUSD) among regulated stablecoins it plans to support for settlement on supported networks, including XRPL. Mastercard said further expansion was planned through 2026.
Mastercard said its planned settlement options are designed to give issuers and acquirers more choice and help them manage liquidity.
