Yemen’s military accused the Houthis of targeting airports in Aden and Mukalla on Wednesday, while the group claimed it had attacked a military site in Aden, where strikes have intensified this week.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group fired a ballistic missile at a Saudi-led coalition operations room at Badr camp in Aden. A police official said smoke was visible near Aden International Airport, Al Jazeera reported.
Yemeni armed forces spokesman Col. Majed Abdullah al-Nazili gave a different account of the targets. He said one ballistic missile was aimed at Aden International Airport and three missiles hit al-Rayyan Airport in Mukalla. He also alleged an attack on a sponge factory in Beir Basha, Taiz.
The competing accounts followed an Oct. 16 missile incident near Aden’s airport that disrupted a Cairo-bound Yemenia departure and prompted officials to evacuate the plane. Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said an Oct. 15 attack on Aden’s Al-Maashiq palace compound killed five security personnel and injured 16 others.
Fighting was also reported elsewhere in Yemen. Coalition officials said pro-government troops were trying to repel a Houthi assault in Kahboub in the country’s southwest.
