Local authorities and military officials said Houthi forces fired four ballistic missiles toward the city of Marib on Oct. 19, adding to attacks on the government stronghold and oil and gas hub.
Marib’s local government reported that the city was targeted. Authorities gave no immediate account of casualties or damage. Government figures put the number of displaced people in the province above 2.2 million.
The Yemeni army reported repelling a separate Houthi assault on the Kahbub front in Lahj governorate. The Southern Giants Brigades described repeated attacks and hours of fighting before the Houthis withdrew. The group said government forces had support from the Saudi-led coalition. It reported Houthi fighters killed or wounded and equipment destroyed, but gave no casualty total.
Marib authorities had reported two earlier barrages. On Oct. 15, they counted nine ballistic missiles alongside seven other projectiles; on Oct. 18, they reported eight ballistic missiles.
The fighting has also struck a security training center in Shabwa province. Local authorities there blamed the Houthis for an Oct. 19 missile attack and reported 53 recruits dead and more than 200 people wounded.
