The Zamfara State Police Command said more than 30 bodies were found after a clash in Bukuyum, but police had not confirmed the dead people’s identities or the final casualty figure, Premium Times reported.

The report attributed the account to police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar, who said security operatives and local groups turned back an attack targeting the town on Wednesday, Oct. 28. He placed the fighting within an operation to push armed groups out of Bukuyum Local Government Area.

Police believed the bodies were those of armed attackers, but had not verified their identities. Abubakar said armed groups in the area often remove their dead after clashes, and the actual number of casualties still required verification.

Security operations with other agencies and local groups were continuing. Abubakar gave no figures for civilians or security personnel killed or injured.
