Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier met in Berlin Friday to discuss trade, investment and regional developments as their countries marked 75 years of relations, Anadolu Ajansı reported.
The outlet said Steinmeier greeted Zardari in a Berlin ceremony that included military honors.
Cerstin Gammelin, Steinmeier's spokeswoman, said in a social media statement that the talks covered ways to expand commerce and investment, alongside developments in the region. She said the two countries wanted to “strengthen their partnership,” Anadolu Ajansı reported.
Zardari traveled at Steinmeier's invitation for a three-day visit with bilateral cooperation and international and regional matters on its agenda, the outlet reported. Meetings with senior German officials and business representatives were scheduled after the presidential talks.
Anadolu Ajansı also reported that Germany ranks as Pakistan's leading trade partner among European Union members.
