An Oleshky ceasefire is intended to open access for aid and civilian departures, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Saturday, as official accounts gave different start dates.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine would honor the pause. “We count on American mediation to work,” he said in remarks reported by Anadolu Agency.

He said Russian forces had mined roads in the occupied part of Kherson, leaving residents in extremely difficult conditions. Zelenskyy said the ceasefire could create an opportunity for aid shipments and civilian departures.

U.S. first lady Melania Trump announced the localized truce, Anadolu Agency reported. Anadolu Agency reported that Ukraine and Russia said fighting would halt in the early hours of Tuesday, Oct. 27. An earlier White House statement set Thursday, Oct. 29, as the start date.

The competing dates leave the start of the humanitarian pause unsettled, affecting when aid deliveries and civilian departures can proceed. EconoTimes previously covered the conflicting dates announced for the Oleshky ceasefire.
