My research focuses on the impacts of drought on groundwater systems in the Netherlands, and the implementation of solutions that can contribute to replenishing groundwater storage without posing flood risk. I conduct this research in the frame of two projects - GroundedExtremes and RESHAPE and uses primarily data and geospatial analysis and groundwater modelling.
Prior to my postdoctoral research, I investigated the effects of large-scale managed aquifer recharge (MAR) systems in rural Spain on an over-exploited aquifer (Los Arenales) for my PhD thesis. I also worked for more than two years as a technical coordinator of a groundwater monitoring programme in Colombia, and as water resources specialist employing primarily geospatial tools and data analysis.
