Patrick D. Nunn

Patrick D. Nunn

Professor of Geography, Australian Centre for Pacific Islands Research and Sustainability Research Centre, University of the Sunshine Coast

Professor of Geography, Sustainability Research Centre, University of the Sunshine Coast After 30 years of research, mostly focused in the Asia-Pacific region, Professor Nunn has accumulated a degree of expertise in a number of different fields. His primary field is geography, once largely physical in focus, but now straddling various aspects of sustainability. Professor Nunn has worked for a number of years in climate change, mostly on sea level and on the challenges of effective adaptation in poorer countries. He has also worked on archaeological topics, usually through the lens of palaeoenvironment reconstruction, but also applying his geological training to ceramic mineralogy and radiocarbon chronology. Since 2000, when a coup in Fiji interrupted a planned research programme, Professor Nunn became interested in myths as potential sources of information about geological hazards, particularly earthquakes and tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and abrupt coastal change.

Duncan Stone

Duncan Stone

Visiting Researcher, University of Huddersfield My PhD examined the historical, sociological and cultural machinations of cricket in southern England, with a particular emphasis upon the philosophical origins of amateurism, how amateurism was used as a means of class distinction and the influence this had upon the development of regional identities. My post-doctoral work aims to investigate (amongst other things) the links between social class, the suburbanisation process and cultural change. I am also writing a social history of English cricket, with a particular emphasis upon amateur cricket – the game as played and watched by the vast majority of the sport's followers – and the relationship this level of cricket had with the so-called 'first class' game.
