Postdoctoral research associate, Durham University

Postdoctoral research associate, Durham University I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience at Durham University. My research centres around developing stakeholder-focused guidance and methodologies to help mitigate landslides and improve slope stabilisation in lower income countries. The methodologies and guidance are developed by working collaboratively with stakeholders (currently in Nepal and India), using a combination of methods including numerical analyses, geotechnical and geological mapping, and qualitative data collection. I acquired my PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from Newcastle University in 2023, which was sponsored by NERC IAPETUS. My PhD aimed to further understand some of the causes for inadequate road slope stabilisation in lower income country settings, and to develop stakeholder-focused methodologies to aid the planning and design of road slope stabilisation. During my PhD, I completed a three month internship at the Research and Information Service (RaISe) of the Northern Ireland Assembly. During the intern, I produced a blog post on transport trends during the COVID-19 pandemic in Northern Ireland and a published research article and blog post on climate change risks to transport infrastructure in Northern Ireland. Prior to my PhD, I received an MSci in Geology from the University of Birmingham in 2017, with a year abroad at the University of Copenhagen. During my undergraduate, I conducted two months of research at the Open University using Pro3D (a 3D image viewer) to examine and measure ripple-like bedforms found along the Opportunity rover traverse of Mars.

PhD Candidate, Geotechnical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Mandi

PhD Candidate, Geotechnical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Mandi I am a doctoral student at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Mandi. I hold a masters degree in Geotechnical Engineering, which I completed with distinction from the National Institute of Technology Silchar in 2022. My PhD research is focused on the problems encompassing construction of roads in hilly areas particularly in Himachal Pradesh and the analysis of landslides resulting from combined effect of rainfall and non-engineered road cuts. My interest lies in understanding the complex interplay between the environment and civil engineering in the context of hilly terrains. Through my research, I aim to contribute to the sustainable development of infrastructure in these challenging areas.

Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the School of Law, Queen's University Belfast

Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the School of Law, Queen's University Belfast Erika Jiménez is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the School of Law, Queen's University Belfast on a project entitled: Golani youth, human rights and the forgotten occupation. She is currently writing her first book on Palestinian youth’s views and experiences of human rights in the occupied West Bank as part of the Human Rights Law in Perspective (Hart) series. She has worked on other projects including a study that explored the experiences of education among minority ethnic and migrant groups in Northern Ireland. Before that she worked as a Research Fellow at the Rights Lab, University of Nottingham in the area of modern slavery research. Erika is committed to conducting research that amplifies voices and ‘ways of knowing’ that are often side-lined in society and academia. She is also interested in decolonial approaches to human rights, childhood, and research. This has led her to conduct research alongside research advisory groups made up of minoritised populations such as Palestinian youth, refugees and survivors of modern slavery.

Associate Professor of Geology, Iowa State University

Associate Professor of Geology, Iowa State University I am a biogeochemist with expertise in anoxic aquatic systems. I study microbial processes that transform inorganic chemical species, particularly metals such as iron. I am interested in the rise of oxygen on Earth, and photosynthetic organisms that drove environmental evolution.
