Postdoctoral Fellow, Centre for Ageing Research and Translation, University of Canberra

Postdoctoral Fellow, Centre for Ageing Research and Translation, University of Canberra Georgina is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Canberra with the Centre for Ageing Research and Translation. Georgina has experience in research and project co-ordination within the fields of dementia caregiving, digital health and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health through roles at Australian eHealth Research Centre (CSIRO), Dementia Training Australia, University of Queensland, and Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC). Her PhD established the need for a best practice framework to guide research and deployment of digital health with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, including persons living with dementia. The PhD was completed with a studentship and employment as a Research Officer at CSIRO. LinkedIn: Georgina Chelberg

Giulia Champion

Giulia Champion

Research Fellow, Humanities, University of Southampton

Research Fellow, Humanities, University of Southampton Dr Giulia Champion is a Research Fellow (Anniversary Fellowship) at the University of Southampton, UK. Her work investigates different communities’ engagement with and representations of the seabed through finance, governance, culture and science. her current project explores how these engagements emerge in the creation of a regulatory framework to mine deep-sea polymetallic nodules from the seabed in the Pacific. Also called deep-sea mining, this type of extraction is supposedly needed to gather the minerals necessary for our energy transitions. My work asks whether we can decarbonise beyond extractivism by considering degrowth and mineral recycling.

Professor of Geology, UCL

Professor of Geology, UCL I have been a university academic my entire working life, first in Zurich, then in Strasbourg (France), Canada, Australia, Germany, China and now the UK. My background is isotope geology, and in particular towards illuminating the conditions under which complex life evolved on our planet. In this regard, I have worked on multiple aspects of Snowball Earth, the Cambrian explosions, mass extinctions and the global carbon cycle. I am the author of a recent book of popular science "Born of Ice and Fire", published by Yale University Press, which examines the evidence for Snowball Earth, and goes on to frame a hypothesis about how tectonic uplift and ocean oxygenation contributed to early animal evolution.

Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Stanford University

Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Stanford University Guosong Hong's research aims to bridge materials science and neuroscience, and blur the distinction between the living and non-living worlds by developing novel neuroengineering tools to interrogate and manipulate the brain. Specifically, the Hong lab is currently developing ultrasound, infrared, and radiofrequency-based in-vivo neural interfaces with minimal invasiveness, high spatiotemporal resolution, and cell-type specificity. Dr. Guosong Hong received his PhD in chemistry from Stanford University in 2014, and then carried out postdoctoral studies with at Harvard University. Dr. Hong joined Stanford Materials Science and Engineering and Neurosciences Institute as an assistant professor in 2018. He is a recipient of the NIH Pathway to Independence (K99/R00) Award, the MIT Technology Review ‘35 Innovators Under 35’ Award, the Science PINS Prize for Neuromodulation, the NSF CAREER Award, the Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Rita Allen Foundation Scholars Award.

Visiting Professor of Environmental Studies, Ashoka University

Visiting Professor of Environmental Studies, Ashoka University I have a PhD in Ecology and Conservation Biology from the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University USA. I work on the ecological impacts of forest degradation, conversion and fragmentation on forest fauna, principally birds. I also work on the policy and politics of wildlife conservation in developing countries, with particular emphasis on protected area management, conservation-induced displacement and community-based conservation.
