Professor of Biology, University of Victoria Trained as an ecologist and marine conservation biologist, I am now a Professor of Biology and a Pew Fellow in Marine Conservation at the University of Victoria, BC, Canada.
Enterprise Fellow, University of South Australia Dr Janet Sluggett is an Enterprise Fellow (Senior Research Fellow) at the University of South Australia and an Affiliate Post-Doctoral Researcher with the Registry of Senior Australians at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute. Janet is an experienced pharmacist and an NHMRC Emerging Leader 2 Fellow. Her research focuses on using Big Data to optimise medicines use, safety and effectiveness among older people accessing aged care services. She is also interested in the delivery and outcomes of pharmacist services, such as medicines reviews, in aged care settings.
Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice, University of South Australia Dr. Jacinta Johnson is a credentialled Advanced Practice pharmacist with over 10 years of experience in hospital pharmacy. She currently practices across two settings as Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice at the University of South Australia, and as Senior Pharmacist, supporting development of research capacity and culture within the SA Pharmacy, the statewide public hospital pharmacy service. In addition, Jacinta is also a National Board Director of the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA), and Chairs the SHPA Residency Advisory Group, the body responsible for guiding development and implementation Foundation and Advanced Training Residencies throughout Australia. Dr Johnson holds a PhD in Pharmacology from the University Adelaide and has a strong track record of conducting applied research to meet needs identified by the health sector. Her research broadly explores topics related to medicines safety and the role of the pharmacist in this field. Additionally, she has a passion for practitioner development and collaborative health care. Her clinical expertise relates to drugs and the brain, with a focus on the fields of pain management, headache and migraine, Parkinson’s disease and addiction medicine. Dr Johnsons influence and expertise have been recognised through several awards within the pharmacy profession. In 2018, she was named the Australian Early Career Pharmacist of the Year by the peak body for pharmacists, the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA), and in 2019 she was named the National Emerging Leader of the Year by the Society of Hospital Pharmacists Australia (SHPA). These followed two state awards, the SA/NT PSA Early Career Pharmacist of the Year and the SHPA ‘PL Jeffs’ Early Career Pharmacist award. In 2022, Dr Johnson and her team received the SHPA SA/NT Team Innovation Award for their work supporting hospital pharmacy research capability, and the SA Pharmacy Award for Excellence in Research and Building Collaborative Partnerships.
Marine Ecologist, MBARI, San José State University Jim Barry's research group studies the biology and ecology of marine benthic communities, with a major goal of understand interactions among environmental factors and biological adaptations that influence the survival, growth, and reproduction of organisms, ultimately determining their distribution and abundance. His recent work emphasizes the influence of climate change, including global warming and rising atmospheric carbon dioxide levels, on ocean animals and ecosystems. Environmental conditions throughout the world ocean are changing in response to fossil fuel emissions and greenhouse warming in the atmosphere. Climate change and high carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are, in turn, causing a domino-like series of changes in ocean conditions, including ocean warming, decreased oxygen content of deep ocean waters due to reduced mixing of oxygenated surface waters to depth, and ocean acidification. The lab examines the physiological responses of organisms to changing ocean conditions using experiments performed in the laboratory and in deep-sea environments using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
Researcher at the Center for Social Solutions, University of Michigan Julie Arbit’s research centers on pursuing equity in systems governing food, water, housing, and more. These interests stem from research experience with rural development, alternative food systems, geospatial modeling, and urban stormwater design. During a fellowship with the Midwest Big Data Hub, she focused on ecosystem services and environmental justice along the Rouge River in Detroit.
