Justin Keogh

Associate Dean of Research, Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, Bond University

Associate Dean of Research, Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, Bond University Associate Professor Justin Keogh originally trained as an exercise and sports scientist with a strong research and translation interest in the benefits of exercise, particularly resistance training in improving muscular function and athletic performance. This research has focused on power sports such as powerlifting, rugby, sprinting, golf and more recently strongman. His clinical research is focused on quantifying the treatment- and sarcopenic-related side-effects in cancer survivors and older adults, respectively and in using exercise and nutritional interventions to improve their outcomes. Since 2008, he has led projects examining the barriers, facilitators and motives that cancer survivors and older adults have in performing physical activity. Such research has involved quantitative and qualitative components. His research achievements in the area of geriatric exercise prescription and sports biomechanics/strength and conditioning have been acknowledged by Fellowships with the Australian Association of Gerontology, International Society of Biomechanics in Sport and Exercise and Sport Science Australia. He currently supervises 4 PhD and 1 Masters of Research students, across a variety of topics including facilitators and barriers to indigenous talent identification and development programs, adolescent super sprint triathlon, female Australian football, nonlinear pedagogy in team sports in the assessment of repeated power ability, He is currently on the editorial board for a number of journals including Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, Journal of Sport Science and Medicine and PeerJ. Justin retains a lifelong passion for competitive sport, especially the football and strength sport codes and is currently a blue belt in Brazilian jujitsu. He is a former national champion in powerlifting and strongman. His favourite strongman events were the truck pull and farmers walk, with his personal best farmers walk of 150 kg per hand for 20m, still a national record in the under 90 kg class (held in conjunction with Darren Lang). After retiring from strongman in 2015, he began playing Masters Australian Rules Football in the South East Queensland league. This transition from a strength sport to a team-based sport requiring high levels of endurance has been a perfect case study of applying theories of motor learning and exercise prescription to practice. Justin’s personal interest include AFL, strongman, playing poker, sampling craft beers and whiskeys, reading fiction and biographies and spending time with his family, especially watching his daughters practice their jujitsu, Ninja Warrior and gymnastics.

Jennifer Regan-Lefebvre

Jennifer Regan-Lefebvre

Professor of History, Trinity College

Professor of History, Trinity College Jennifer Regan-Lefebvre is the chair of the Trinity College Department of History and a historian of modern Britain, Ireland, and British imperialism. She is the author of Imperial Wine: The British Empire and the Making of Wine's New World (University of California Press, April 2022), which won the André Simon Award. Her work combines political, economic, and cultural approaches, and puts wine history in dialogue with colonial history. She is currently co-editing the six-volume Bloomsbury Cultural History of Wine, with Charles Ludington. She is President of the Northeast Conference of British Studies. Regan-Lefebvre's earlier work investigated the experience of the Irish in the British Empire, and particularly the intersections of nationalism, imperialism, and colonialism. Her first book was a biography of the Irish Quaker nationalist, and president of the 1894 Indian National Congress, Alfred Webb. Cosmopolitan Nationalism in the Victorian Empire revealed a strain of Irish nationalism that was globally-minded, civic, and committed to imperial reform. She also edited and published the memoirs of J. F. X. O'Brien, revealing his radical engagements in France, New Orleans, and Nicaragua before his entry into Fenian politics. Regan-Lefebvre teaches widely across British and world history and enjoys developing new classes to stimulate students' interest in the past and to build their skills as historians and communicators. Her classes include an introductory British history survey, seminars on British cultural history, wine history, Irish history, and historical networks, and an experiential course in parliamentary debate. She has been particularly proud to supervise a number of senior thesis writers in undertaking archival research in the UK. Her former Trinity research students have gone on to pursue graduate degrees in history at Cambridge, Yale, and Carnegie Mellon. Regan-Lefebvre has also written for Decanter and VinePair, and worked as a historical consultant for heritage and wine organizations. She teaches a free, open, online course on the history of wine, available through Trinity EdX. For her scholarship and educational impact, Regan-Lefebvre was named one of the "Future 50" of the global wine industry by the Wine and Spirits Education Trust and the International Wine and Spirits Competition in 2019. She holds a WSET Level 3 Award in Wine.

Professor of Energy and Climate Policy, University of Leeds

Professor of Energy and Climate Policy, University of Leeds I joined the Sustainability Research Institute (SRI) in February, 2011 as a Chair in Sustainability Research. My research interests include sustainable consumption and production (SCP) modelling, carbon accounting and exploring the transition to a low carbon pathway. I have an extensive knowledge of the use of Multi-Regional Environmental Input-Output modelling to understand the effectiveness of strategies and policies to deliver a low carbon economy. My research is predominately funded by the UK Government (Defra) and the UK Energy Research Centre. These key areas of research have involved the building of global trade models to understand the embedded carbon emissions in goods and services and estimating the upstream carbon emissions from emerging energy technologies. The techniques that I developed as part of my research are now used by numerous government departments to understand the consumer emissions of the UK as well as the carbon emissions embedded in products.
