Sheridan Few

Sheridan Few

Lecturer in Urban Energy Systems, University of Leeds

Lecturer in Urban Energy Systems, University of Leeds Dr Sheridan Few is a Lecturer in Urban Energy Systems at the University of Leeds. His research focuses on energy, transport, decision making, and climate change mitigation. Sheridan's background is in energy modelling and he is particularly interested in the role that models play in shaping decisions, whose world views these models represent, and what may be missing in those. His motivation is to catalyse transformative change to a just low carbon energy system. Sheridan previously worked as a Research Fellow in Decision Making under Deep Uncertainty, developing practical steps to better account for uncertainty in planning, including through incorporating flexible approaches, and plans which are robust to a wide range of possible futures. Before joining the University of Leeds, Sheridan was a Research Associate at the Imperial College London’s Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment, working to understand how to design and operate low carbon electricity systems across UK and energy access contexts. Sheridan also used integrated assessment models to calculate global energy system pathways towards ambitious climate targets, and conducted expert interviews to understand cost and performance trajectories of energy storage technologies, and to understand their role in the UK electricity system. Sheridan completed his PhD on computational modelling of organic photovoltaic materials in the Physics department of Imperial College London in 2015, worked with Solar Press (now part of SPECIFIC) to scale up production of organic photovoltaic devices, and completed a BA in Physics at the University of Oxford in 2009.

Sebastian Wieczorek

Professor (Chair) and Head of Applied Mathematics, University College Cork

Professor (Chair) and Head of Applied Mathematics, University College Cork Sebastian M. Wieczorek received his MSc degree in Theoretical Physics from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland, in 1998, and his PhD degree in Mathematical Physics from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 2002. Following his PhD, he worked as a Researcher at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, for the Department of Energy and the Lockheed Martin Corporation. He was then appointed Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Exeter, UK, in June 2006, promoted to Senior Lecturer in May 2010, and to Associate Professor in February 2014. In August 2014, Sebastian took the position of Professor (Chair) of Applied Mathematics and Head of Applied Mathematics at University College Cork. Professor Sebastian Wieczorek specialises in Applied Nonlinear Dynamics and Bifurcation Theory or, in other words, in mathematical theory of instability. He develops mathematical concepts and techniques for physical problems including: Nonlinear dynamics of semiconductor laser systems. Tipping Points (Critical Transitions) in the climate and ecosystems. Instabilities in the brain (e.g. seizure dynamics). Stability of healthcare systems. Nonlinear dynamics of evolutionary games.

PhD candidate in Behavioural Ecology‬, Stockholm University

PhD candidate in Behavioural Ecology‬, Stockholm University I am broadly interested in understanding the evolution of birdsong as a complex, multifaceted signal. For my PhD, I am looking at the interplay between innate and social processes on song learning and subsequently, its impact on evolutionary processes such as sexual selection and speciation.
