Associate Professor, The University of Melbourne My research spans Law and Technology, Legal Theory, and Private Law. I recently published Artificial Justice (OUP 2023), which calls for us to look beyond inequality when we think and talk about algorithmic fairness. I joined Melbourne Law School from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2020, and received my D.Phil, BCL and LLB from the University of Oxford.
Assistant Professor, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, Imperial College London I am currently an assistant professor in the Department of Management at Imperial College. My research has a strong focus on working on meaningful societal topics, which can contribute to the advancement of scholarship and inform policy. I leverage qualitative methods (extensive fieldwork, ethnography, and archival work) to study phenomena such as colocating, identical car repair firms in Kenya; experimentation on gig workers; and fraud court cases against Silicon Valley start-ups, among other areas of interest.
Adjunct professor, The University of Western Australia Tom chaired the Western Australian EPA from 2015 to 2020. He is on the Board of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, the Western Australia Parks Foundation, and the UWA Oceans Institute, where he is Adjunct Professor. He previously served on a numerous board and government appointments including the Australian Government’s Independent Expert Scientific Committee on Coal Seam Gas and Large Coal Mining Development, the WA Conservation Commission, the Chair of the Western Australian Marine Parks and Reserves Authority, and the Chair of the 2011 Australian State of the Environment Committee . Dr Hatton retired as CSIRO’s Group Executive for Energy in 2014, where he previously directed national water and marine research programs. In 2008, Tom received the CSIRO Chairman’s Medal and the Australian Public Service Medal for his contributions to the management of Australia’s water resources. Tom completed his BSc and MSc degrees at Humboldt State University and his PhD at Utah State University, followed by a post-doctoral appointment in the Mathematics Department of the UNSW (ADFA). He is a native of San Benito County, California.
Research fellow, University of Southampton I am a molecular biologist and physiologist researching biomineralisation in marine calcifiers and species’ responses to global change stressors. My research integrates omics tools, physiological methods, and geochemical techniques to investigate these research areas. I primarily work with coral and coralline algae. I am currently a Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, working in the Foster Lab and Coral Reef Laboratory. Previously, I was a Research Fellow at the Université du Québec à Rimouski. I completed my DPhil at Griffith University with Guillermo Diaz-Pulido and Carmel McDougall.
Project Manager, Threatened Species Index, The University of Queensland I am the Project Manager for the Threatened Species Index (TSX) at the Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN) based at The University of Queensland. The TSX integrates long-term monitoring data for Australia’s threatened and near-threatened species. A key focus of my role is coordinating the growth and expansion of the TSX, including working with data providers from across the country to bring their data into the index, allowing us to generate up-to-date and reliable trends in abundance at national, state and regional levels. Coupled with my TSX role, I continue to pursue my interests in the field of data science, focussing on the important role it plays in biodiversity conservation. I am particularly passionate about helping streamline the ways in which we collect, analyse, publish, and access data, critical to improving scientific discovery, communication, and collaboration globally. I hold a degree in Advanced Science (Ecology) with First Class Honours from The University of Queensland and my research experience covers aspects of plant community and invasion ecology, as well as conservation biology.
Postdoctoral Researcher, Linköping University I am a cultural geographer researching problems posed by human-technology relationships. My postdoctoral research focuses on the speculative problem of how to preserve memory of nuclear storage sites in Sweden into the distant future. Project website: https://nuclearmemory.wordpress.com/
