February is packed with video game releases, including some of the most anticipated titles over the last few years. While Ubisoft does not have a new game to offer, for now, the publisher launches a free play promo for "Assassin's Creed: Valhalla" that extends through the end of the month.
The free access to "Assassin's Creed: Valhalla" has started earlier this week, and the game will continue to be available for free through Monday, February 28. Players will have access to all the features and content released for the base game, but DLCs are not included in the promo. It should not be a letdown, though, considering that the free access will end in a few days.
However, new players who will enjoy "Assassin's Creed: Valhalla" can also take advantage of an ongoing sale. Ubisoft said in an email announcement that the base game is currently available with a 60 percent discount, bringing the price down to $23.99 from $59.99. The publisher also confirmed that any progress made during the free play weekend would be carried over once players purchase the full game.

In the announcement of the free play weekend, Ubisoft noted that the promo coincided with the premiere of the new Netflix series "Vikings: Valhalla." Despite the similarities in the title, note that they are not related.
The free play weekend also comes at a good time and could be Ubisoft's way to invite more players as "Assassin's Creed: Valhalla" enters its Year 2 content roadmap. The game is getting its third expansion, titled "Dawn of Ragnarok," on March 10. But new and existing players will have to purchase it separately as it is no longer part of the game's Season Pass. It will be sold as a standalone purchase for $39.99.
The upcoming "Assassin's Creed: Valhalla" expansion will feature a new adventure where Eivor steps into the role of the reincarnated Odin. The main protagonist will explore the depths of Svartalfheim, where players can absorb the powers of the enemies they defeat along the way.
