BMW Motorrad has teamed up with TVS Motor Company to produce the BMW CE 02, an electric motorcycle designed to offer an affordable and compact solution for urban mobility. This move follows the successful unveiling of the production version of the CE 02 this summer.
The CE 02 is designed as a compact and low-power alternative to BMW's electric motorbike flagship, the CE 04, according to Ride Apart. With its affordable price tag of just US $7,599, compared to the CE 04's higher price point of around US $12,000, the CE 02 is set to cater to a broader demographic of urban mobility enthusiasts.
BMW's Swift Response to Market Demands
As BMW Motorrad encountered an emissions issue that prompted a temporary stop-sale notice for their gasoline-powered motorcycles in North America, the company focused on enhancing their electric two-wheeler portfolio, Electrek noted. During the halt in sales, the CE 04 served as the sole offering available to customers.
However, with the recent production commencement of the CE 02, BMW Motorrad aims to regain market presence and capture the attention of younger riders seeking a dynamic urban transportation solution.
TVS Motor Company, BMW's esteemed partner for the CE 02 project, is contributing to the manufacturing process of this electric scooter at their Hosur facility near Chennai, India. While the CE 02 is yet to be released in the Indian market, it will initially be exported to other markets where its availability has been confirmed. In the United States, customers can expect the CE 02 to hit retailers at a starting price of $7,599.
Designed for the Modern Urbanite With Impressive Performance, Range
BMW has tailored the CE 02 to appeal to a younger, urban demographic—individuals who seek an eco-friendly and stylish mode of transportation for their daily commutes. The bike's sleek design and compact form make it ideal for navigating crowded city streets and parking in tight spaces.
BMW has even considered convenience and urban mobility by including unique accessories. One such is a removable skateboard that doubles as an additional foot platform.
The BMW CE 02 boasts an 11-kilowatt electric motor, delivering approximately 15 horsepower and an impressive 55 Newton-meter torque (44 pound-feet). Equipped with a 2-kilowatt-hour battery pack, it offers an estimated range of 56 miles per charge—a commendable feat for urban commuting. With a top speed of 59 mph (95 km/h), the CE 02 perfectly balances urban maneuverability and efficient highway travel.
