The release of downloadable contents (DLCs) launched after the official release date of a video game has become popular since the early 2000s. There has been a steady demand among gaming fans, and among recent years the offering of Season Passes like in “Borderlands 3” has been more common.
‘Borderlands 3’ DLCs: What gamers should expect
To answer the question of whether or not gamers should expect post-launch DLCs for "Borderlands 3," the offering of Season Pass is the key. This is a clear promise that Gearbox is going to release additional story campaigns that will also come with new challenges and other gameplay contents.
However, it should be noted that DLCs come in different forms. Some of them are paid while others are free contents. With the advent of microtransaction in the gaming industry, a DLC can simply be a collection of new playable characters or even just fancy cosmetics that may or may not affect a player's overall progress. As for "Borderlands 3," developers have recently hinted that upcoming DLCs will focus on new story campaigns.
In the latest “Borderlands” livestream show, the game’s creative director Paul Sage entertained a few questions from fans with one asking about additional characters for “Borderlands 3” through post-launch DLCs. To that, Sage simply replied, “Probably not, no.”
It should be noted, though, that Gearbox has promised that the “Borderlands 3” Season Pass will include four DLCs. These will add new campaign stories to the game that come with new challenges and missions. Gearbox has yet to detail its roadmap for this Season Pass.
'Borderlands 3' updates: Free game events to be released before 1st Season Pass DLC
The good news is before the first Season Pass DLC, “Borderlands 3” will have two game events – Bloody Harvest and Maliwan Takedown – that come with content updates and new quests. The best part is these are both free updates.
As the name Bloody Harvest suggests, it will be the Halloween-themed event for “Borderlands 3” filled with rewarding limited-time missions. With that, this event should kick off in the coming weeks.
Completing the “Borderlands 3” fall/winter content roadmap is the Maliwan Takedown event. This also a free update and will likely go live before 2019 ends. Gearbox promised this would arrive with a new map, new enemies, and new boss fight.
