Brexit Series: Do not hope for soft exit

In a previous article named, “Brexit Series: Soft Brexit is illusion, hard is reality” available at http://www.econotimes.com/Brexit-Series-Soft-Brexit-is-illusion-hard-is-reality-674251 we urged our readers not to hope for a softer Brexit deal for Britain as it is clearly not in the interest of the political class in the European Union. We cited recent comments made and actions taken by EU leaders in support of our article. Here in this article, we are once again urging the same cautiousness and we would like to cite the following in support,

  • The European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker’s Chief of staff Martin Selmayr, in an interview with Politico, said that Brexit is a sorry and sad event for both the United Kingdom and the European Union and said that Brexit will never be a success.

What he actually express by these words is the exact mentality of the European Union’s political class. It is not that ‘Brexit will never be a success’ but it will never be allowed to and we have long been argued that a successful Brexit is an existential threat to the European Union, at least in the mind of the political elite, who feels that a mutually beneficial deal could end up encouraging others to leave the European Union.
