Briferendum Series: Referendum voting officially begins

Referendum voting has officially begun in the United Kingdom at 6:00 GMT, about half an hour ago. Voting will continue for next 15 hours and will end at 21:00 GMT. The market is not likely to move much throughout this period, however, there could occasional volatility spark due to low volume and position shifting.

Private large investors may have used their money to hire exit pollsters, who may be updating them throughout the period from all different 382 counting areas. Official results will be announced from as early as 23:30 GMT from different regions and each will be sufficient enough to cause volatility spikes in the market.

Central bankers around the world have long prepared themselves for the event and volatilities in the financial market associated with it, so it is unlikely that there will be liquidity shortages in any currency. US Federal Reserve, European Central Bank, Bank of England, and Bank of Japan all have their swap line ready to be activated if required.

The pound has retreated slightly to trade at 1.476 against the dollar, while the yen has strengthened a bit to trade at 104.4 per dollar.
