Multiple known leakers have reported that fan-favorite studio Sledgehammer Games is leading the development of the "Call of Duty" game launching later this year. It has led to speculations on which series the 2021 title would follow, and many are hoping it would be the much-requested "Advanced Warfare" sequel.
Sledgehammer Games heads development of 'Call of Duty' 2021
Activision recently confirmed that an all-new "Call of Duty" game is planned to launch later this year. The game publisher did not provide many details, but reliable leakers are now reporting which Activision-owned studio is leading the upcoming title's development.
The Twitter page Modern Warzone, which had some accurate leaks before, reported that the "Call of Duty" 2021 game is "100% developed" by Sledgehammer. The tipster is so confident about the information that it advised its more than 207,000 followers they do not need to take this with a grain of salt.
The next #CallOfDuty title is 100% being developed by @SHGames.

Of course, the rumor mill's basic rule is to take reports with caution until studios involved make the official announcement. But it is also worth noting that another reliable leaker, Okami13, has weighed in by sharing Modern Warzone's tweet and telling their online followers that the information is "true." The leaker added, "Sledgehammer Games will be heading COD 2021 with the help of pretty much every Call of Duty studio in existence."
Who will help Sledgehammer for 'Call of Duty' 2021?
It is not strange for multiple Activision-owned studios to be involved in a single "Call of Duty" project with one of them leading the development. For example, the 2020 title "Black Ops Cold War" was primarily developed by Treyarch with Raven Software acting as co-developer.
What is more interesting is the lineup of studios that will be working with Sledgehammer for this year's "Call of Duty." There were reports that Sledgehammer was initially assigned to lead the making of "Black Ops Cold War," along with Raven. However, Activision needed to step in and make adjustments to the project after it was reported in 2019 that tension started to rise between the two studios. It was at this point when Treyarch was reportedly tasked to take Sledgehammer's place.
