The Alpha testing of “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” went live this week, but not for everyone. On the bright side, the full schedule of the subsequent beta access has been revealed for all platforms.
‘Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’ Alpha now live
The Alpha and beta start dates for “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” shows that Sony and Activision have a good thing going. The Alpha test, starting on Friday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m. Pacific Time will only be opened to PlayStation 4 gamers.
Charlie Intel reports there will be no codes required and even PS4 players without a PlayStation Plus account can join. “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” Alpha will be live only until Sunday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.
The Black Ops Cold War Alpha will feature a limited set of content, but if it’s in the Alpha, you can use it from game 1. There are still a ton of Weapons, Attachments, Scorestreaks and more being saved for Beta, and even more for Launch after that. The Alpha is your appetizer.

Through the 48 hours that it is live, PS4 players can try to play three modes of the upcoming game namely the Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, and Domination. The playlist is designed for 6v6 matches and will feature two maps. Treyarch Lead Game Designer Tony Flame referred to the “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” Alpha as the “appetizer” as he confirmed that more weapons, attachments, and scorestreaks will only go live in beta and much more awaits when the game is launched on Nov. 13.
‘Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’ beta arrives on PlayStation 4 first
The exclusive access to “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” Alpha is one of the perks that would give PS4 owners some bragging rights since the beta tests will not start immediately after this phase ends. The first weekend for the game’s beta goes live on Oct. 8-9 for pre-order customers and on Oct. 10-12 for everyone else. Again, these first schedules only apply to PS4 gamers.
Those who pre-ordered “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” for Xbox One and PC will have the beta early access on Oct. 15-16 followed by the open access on Oct. 17-19 for these platforms. During this period, and with all platforms supported, beta testers can also enjoy the cross-play feature.
Activision and Treyarch have been quite generous in giving away free beta codes. However, the most certain way to get one is to pre-order any digital edition of “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.” The game is also confirmed to arrive on next-generation consoles.
