OMAHA, Neb., Feb. 16, 2016 -- Nebraska Methodist College has announced its newest Doctor of Nursing practice offering, an Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist program that will educate nurses to bridge the gap between patient and population healthcare.
The new specialization joins ongoing Family Nurse Practitioner and APRN to DNP terminal degree programs. The latest doctorate opportunity is geared toward nurses who seek to be experts in direct patient care and population health while serving as mentors, consultants, educators and leaders.
"Given the current state of healthcare, we need leaders in the nursing field who are able to step up and oversee programs that address the needs of an entire population," said Dr. Alice Kindschuh, director of Doctoral Studies for Nebraska Methodist College. "The new Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist track will provide nursing professionals with the skills to advocate for change, facilitate community involvement and put forward advanced treatment concepts that can fundamentally improve patient care."
This is the latest example of Nebraska Methodist College expanding its program offerings to meet the steadily increasing demand for qualified healthcare professionals. The AG-CNS course launches at the same time as the previously announced Master in Occupational Therapy and Master of Science in Nursing-Informatics track.
"With a nursing shortage in full effect throughout the country, it's of the utmost importance that we're able to fill leadership roles with qualified nurses who have the best interests of their patients at heart," said Dr. Dennis Joslin, president and CEO of Nebraska Methodist College. "Our greatest strength lies in the compassionate approach we take to healthcare, and this latest degree path renews our dedication to the community and the nursing profession as a whole."
Online courses will begin this fall. Interested individuals can visit the Nebraska Methodist College website to learn more. The doctorate degree requires a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and can be completed in three years.
