“Cyberpunk 2077” has been one of the most popular video games that fans have been looking forward to on major gaming conferences since it was announced in May 2012. The long wait is now finally down to over six months, but fans should manage their expectations, especially those who love playing in groups because a multiplayer is not available on day 1.
'Cyberpunk 2077' fans should patiently wait if they really want a multiplayer mode
Teasers that have been released for “Cyberpunk 2077” show just how vast the virtual and chaotic world that CD Projekt Red has developed into a video game based on Mike Pondsmith’s “Cyberpunk 2020.” With a very intricate open-world environment, fans cannot help but ask early on if multiplayer is in the works.
The latest update on this matter is that “Cyberpunk 2077” will not be released with multiplayer gameplay next year. But it can be recalled that the developer has discussed this in a tweet last September. CD Projekt Red wrote, “We’d like to confirm that multiplayer's in the works.”
1/2 Until now, the only thing we said about multi was that it was in R&D. As we’re getting closer to launching ‘single player’ Cyberpunk 2077 in Apr. 2020, we’d like to confirm that multiplayer's in the works! A recent interview with CD Projekt Red’s head of Krakow office, John Mamais, discussed the studio’s plans for the multiplayer mode in “Cyberpunk 2077” by telling Gamespot of the company’s growth. The answer does not necessarily promise a multiplayer. But it sheds light on CD Projekt Red’s capacity to work on expanding the “Cyberpunk 2077” gameplay through a multiplayer without spreading out its manpower and resources too thin.
'Cyberpunk 2077' gameplay, release date: What to expect from the much-awaited CD Projekt Red AAA game
For now, the developer has repeatedly said it is focused on delivering “Cyberpunk 2077” in its best quality as a single-player title under the role-playing and cyberpunk genres. After almost a decade, the game finally has a release date set on April 16, 2020.
Gamers will play as V. But the great thing about “Cyberpunk 2077” is that the character’s name is pretty much the only thing that CD Projekt Red has decided for the players. Fans can customize V’s appearance and decide their ethnicity, gender, and pronoun preferences, fashion, and even the backstory of what brought them to the Night City.
