EA Motive, the studio developing the “Dead Space” remake, has yet to say when the game will be released. However, a new report has provided a potential launch window, and it may be earlier than once thought.
The latest installment in the sci-fi survival horror franchise was “Dead Space 3,” and it was released in 2013. Due to the timing of its launch, it was available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The title was not remastered, making the development of the “Dead Space” remake – only coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S – quite a technological leap.
One of EA Motive’s first interviews about the “Dead Space” remake was for IGN, where it was noted that the development is still in its early stage. With these details in mind, it is not surprising if some fans did not expect the game to launch for years.
However, GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb reported on Thursday that EA is internally targeting to launch the “Dead Space” remake within the company’s 2023 fiscal year, which covers April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023. But the same report mentioned that the game could arrive in late 2022 if the developer does not encounter major issues along the way.
Naturally, EA would not confirm the report, which Grubb said was a tip that came from “sources familiar with development.” “We haven’t shared a release date for the game, and we don’t have any comment based on the current rumor and speculation,” EA only said about the release window tip.
The same report said EA is planning to release more teasers for the “Dead Space” remake before the end of 2021. It is then possible that a new trailer showing more scenes from the upcoming game could be unveiled in the upcoming gaming events, such as The Game Awards later this year.
Aside from the obvious technological upgrades to be used in the “Dead Space” remake development, details about the game’s plot and gameplay are still scarce. One thing that EA Motive confirmed, though, is that its story is not exactly a continuation of the events in “Dead Space 3.”
EA Motive creative director Roman Campos-Oriola told IGN that they are still treating the story from the original series as the foundation of the “Dead Space” remake. “By default, that's what is canon,” Campos-Oriola said. “But then there are some improvements that we want to make to that story.”
