“Elden Ring” is one of the most anticipated role-playing games, thanks to the studio and the people involved in writing its lore. Despite its popularity since its announcement last year, fans are left guessing some of the key details about the titles including its release date.
‘Elden Ring’ release date: Why fans aren’t convinced it would be launched in 2022
Developer FromSoftware has yet to say anything about the release window of “Elden Ring.” Considering the game was just announced in 2019 and the hints that the game is supposed to be one of the biggest projects the studio has taken, many fans do not expect to see it released in the next several years.
However, Reddit user u/aCursingSmurf shared an Amazon Germany screenshot showing a reported “Elden Ring” listing that included a rather specific release date. The product page also showed an option to pre-order the game and it would be released on August 15, 2022.
Fans replying to the Reddit post are generally skeptical about the information. Most of them argue that a release in the next two years seems too early for “Elden Ring,” while others do not rule out its possibility. Even though the game was announced in 2019, its development started a couple of years earlier. That timeline is usually enough for studios to produce a full game.
Other details in the Amazon listing also give fans reasons to doubt the information. For one, the “Elden Ring” listing is meant for the PlayStation 5 platform but FromSoftware has yet to announce its plans in launching the game on next-generation consoles. There is a good chance for the game to be released in PS5 and Xbox Series X/S since these gaming systems are arriving next month. But, for now, “Elden Ring” is officially announced for PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms only.
‘Elden Ring’: The game crafted by ‘Souls’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ writers
“Elden Ring” is a new IP, but having Hidetaka Miyazaki at the helm and George R.R. Martin writing its lore is enough to build the hype around the fantasy RPG. Miyazaki is best known for creating the action RPG “Souls” series that was also developed by FromSoftware. Meanwhile, Martin is undeniably one of the most recognizable fantasy novelists in the world having several successful works other than the “Game of Thrones” franchise.
Most gameplay elements of “Elden Ring” are still under wraps. Other than using heavy RPG themes, the developers have previously confirmed they will include boss fights as one of the core aspects of the game.
During the 23rd Japan Media Arts Festival, host Sayawaka reported that other “Game of Thrones” staff have also joined the development of “Elden Ring.” “The game has got a sort of ‘open-worlded-ness’ to it with wide open areas where you can ride your horse and things,” Sayawaka added, courtesy of Reddit user cocoakoumori’s translation.
