Speculation around a potential “Musk Inc” has resurfaced as Elon Musk’s companies—SpaceX, Tesla, and xAI—explore closer ties amid rapid advances in artificial intelligence and automation. With SpaceX expected to go public later this year and Tesla navigating a pivotal shift from traditional electric vehicles to robotaxis and humanoid robots, investors are closely watching how Musk may reshape his business empire.
According to Reuters, SpaceX is nearing a deal to acquire xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence startup. Such a move could accelerate Musk’s vision of deploying AI-powered data centers in space, which he has described as an ideal solution for meeting the massive energy demands of advanced computing. Because both SpaceX and xAI are private and controlled by Musk, a merger between the two would be relatively straightforward and unlikely to disrupt SpaceX’s anticipated IPO, which could value the company at over $1 trillion.
Bloomberg also reported that SpaceX has considered a potential merger with Tesla, though this option presents greater complexity. Tesla, with a market capitalization exceeding $1.4 trillion, would likely require shareholder approval for any major acquisition. While Musk has historically maintained strong investor support, concerns remain about valuation, dilution, and transparency if Tesla were to merge with a privately held SpaceX.
Supporters argue that the strategic logic is compelling. Tesla’s future hinges on AI-driven autonomous vehicles and robotics, while SpaceX’s plans for orbiting data centers could supply the computing power needed to support those technologies. Some investors believe combining Musk’s companies could better align resources and leadership under a unified vision.
However, critics warn that Tesla shareholders may resist a deal if SpaceX’s valuation is perceived as inflated. Analysts also note Tesla’s high price-to-earnings ratio, which already far exceeds that of other major technology firms, adding to investor caution.
For now, a SpaceX-xAI merger appears to be the simpler and more immediate step. Whether Musk ultimately объединяет his companies or keeps them separate, the outcome could redefine the intersection of space exploration, artificial intelligence, and autonomous technology.
