Based on the source materials left for “Food Wars” season 5, it is quite clear that this will be the final installment of the anime series. However, many fans have one uncommon but understandable request – for the anime to end differently than the manga series.

Food Wars’ season 5 spoilers, plot predictions: Fans hope for anime’s original ending

First, it is important to address why many fans are hoping to see the anime adaptation ended differently. While the franchise has several supporting protagonists loved by its followers, the overall plot was expected to be mainly about Soma Yukihira’s journey to becoming a great chef. Soma is not entirely an underdog, but his skills needed to be refined to be on par with his father, Joichiro’s, culinary abilities.

This aspect of the plot was at the core of the earlier story arcs, but many fans argue it eventually got lost later on as the series seemingly shifted its attention to Erina Nakiri. This is hard to refute, especially considering how the manga ended. Fans who already know what happened in the “Food Wars” season 5 source materials have complained about how Soma’s ultimate goal did not see a resolution, and he even got defeated by Erina in the final shokugeki of the series.

Moving forward to “Food Wars” season 5, the plot can still take a different turn without throwing away the developments from the season 4 arc. Having an original ending in an anime adaptation is not a completely strange idea as it happened for many other series before. However, given the production period that J.C.Staff has for season 5, building a completely original story to close the adaptation seems impossible.

Food Wars’ season 5 release date: When to expect the new episodes

The Fourth Plate covered the second half of the Promotions Exam arc, leaving two short arcs and one final (and a quite longer) storyline for “Food Wars” season 5. The anime’s fourth season just concluded in late 2019 while the Fifth Plate is already confirmed to premiere sometime in April.

If fans are to get their wishes, that would mean J.C.Staff is given barely half a year to plot an entirely new story for “Food Wars” season 5. In such a short period, that task seems impossible and might not even lead to a more favorable result.
